The Stunning East Coast of Taiwan

From coastal areas to mountain highs, Taitung greets visitors to a land of ecological richness and scenic beauty. The county is also known for its distinctive local products, from premium rice, day lilies, hibiscus, and sugar apples to sailfish, bonito , and other specialty seafood items. The city’s biggest green space,Taitung Forest Park, is situated right at the edge of town.
There are various public  bathing places, you can swim outdoors or in the SPA, or indoors, and there is plenty of time. The temperature of the soup pool is just right, and there is ginger tea or Luoshen 旅遊必敗伴手禮 tea  to drink. There are many activities, such as boiling hot spring eggs, hand-made aboriginal snacks, golf, paintball archery, etc. There are also many sports facilities in the indoor basement.

It has become one of the major tourist destinations in Taitung, famous for hot springs and beautiful forests. A visit here gives you the chance to take a dip in the ocean and is an essential part of a well-rounded holiday. Wulai was once very popular for its makeshift riverside hot springs, but they’ve become so worn down, and sometimes have no hot water left, that they are no longer worth visiting. The hot spring spas in town have also seen better days, but we still like the ones on Wenquan Road, across the busy pedestrian bridge and to the left.
You will also visit Eluanbi Lighthouse which is one of the major attractions in the national park. This lighthouse is cylindrical shaped coloured in white and is also renowned as “the Light of East Asia” for its strong optical power of light that can reach 20 miles at most. Beautiful views of hills merging with the  sea are quite normal in Taitung City. Zhengqi Street is a street hawker fair and has the famous “Fruit Street.” Seashore Park and Forest Park are home to Pipa Lake and Egret Lake. Fugang Fishing Harbor, Jialulan, the National Museum of Prehistory, the Beinan Cultural Park, and Taitung Airport all make Taitung a vibrant and colorful place.

Every year, many foreign and domestic tourists travel to Changbin to see the mystery of Baxian Caves. In May I would say sure, but by June it’s usually getting quite hot in Taiwan , plus VERY humid, so that usually kills my motivation to soak in hot water, at least in the daytime. If you do want to check out some hot springs, though, consider going in the evening, when at least it won’t be so hot out. At all the hot spring resorts in Guanziling village, the hot spring water is slightly murky due to high silt content. Most hot springs offer private rooms or nude, sex-segregated baths. Spring City Resort (北投春天酒店) (book an overnight stay on Booking / Agoda / TripAdvisor) is the only kid-friendly one.
Jingying hot spring lies just upstream of Lushan hot spring. Originally a secret location for the local Atayal aboriginals to eliminate their fatigue, it soon became a tourist hotspot due to its fame. Zhiben Hot Springs have the reputation of being "the greatest scene in eastern Taiwan." In the early years, hot springs emerged from riverbeds. There are colorless, odorless and their temperature reaches more than 100 degrees . If you like surfing, do check out Dulan Beach, one of the best surfing beaches in Taitung County. If you don’t mind the cold, you can surf year-round in this little piece of paradise.

A lot of spas offer hot springs & meal packages, which are often a great deal. However, both buses and trains will take you to the main towns along the route. But the truth about small towns in Taiwan is that most of them are pretty ugly and noisy with not so much to see.
Just after Highway 11 reaches the coast, you’ll reach Farglory Ocean Park, the largest of Taiwan’s theme parks that has a marine focus. Although it’s not my cup of tea, and I’d rather sea dolphins in the wild such as on this dolphin and whale watching tour, Farglory is quite popular.
