I push opened the graveyard's gate and it creaked horribly. Mists had settled in the graveyard, making it hard to see. I lighted my flashlight and started to walk across it to the other gate at the other end. So I put on my jacket and walked to the graveyard, my friends following me.

I remember both of us sitting there, panting, staring forward for a good minute or two until snapping back to it with a “WTF!!!??? ” The sun went down, and nothing could be seen toward the tracks. We went to our hangout with the crew at 7, chomping at the bit to tell everyone what happened. I told my dad later on, and he says so many people died building that railroad, it was probably a ghost.
One thing you won't see on the list is any work from this year's judges, Stephen Graham Jones, Ruthanna Emrys, Tananarive Due and Grady Hendrix. Readers did nominate them, but the judges felt uncomfortable debating the inclusion of their own work — so it's up to me to tell you to find and read their excellent books! I personally, as a gigantic horror wuss, owe a debt of gratitude to this year's judges, particularly Hendrix, for their help writing summaries for all the list entries.
