Identifying how to support people waiting for neurodivergence referrals and assessments

They meet twice a week and do activities such as going for walks, going for meals, and any other activities they would like to try. It was great to see how much attention our social group got, with many people keen to know more. There are no further assessments required with us, and you’re free to stop the process here if you choose.
We encourage open dialogue, and our support services are designed to create a safe space where you can freely discuss your experiences and concerns. Peer to Peer support of others who understand our situation is a benefit of being part of the AP Cymru family, as our families will openly share their experiences. We will spotlight key issues including how to create a physically inclusive working environment and implement changes of all sizes to improve the working lives of neurodivergent colleagues. We can draw on our specialism of neurodevelopment and neuropsychology to provide expert reports useful for a court of law. This will always be decided on a case-by-case basis in order to ensure we are always working within our professional competency. The funding will extend the work of the National Neurodivergence Improvement Programme and support for the National Neurodivergence Team, to work with the NHS to drive improvement across Wales for a further two years to March 2027. The aim of the initial screening is to identify if you may have a neurodiversity or also known as ‘Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)’ – this term covers conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and ADHD. The below guidance aims to focus on what to expect after an initial screening or full assessment via the PSW service. While not a medical diagnosis, your assessment gives you your first roadmap, signposting you to any neurodiversity traits you may have and helping you to determine which diagnosis to pursue if needed.

We also offer Neurodiversity Assessment full dyslexia diagnostic assessments for children aged 8 and upwards. Explore our range of services designed to support neurodiverse individuals and their families. Our clinical team also offer consultations to professionals working with children, young people and families. Set up by Cardiff resident and Psychology MA Kyla Scott, LBM are free to access, community based mental well-being intervention for children, teens, young adults,  and their primary caregiver/s. During our sessions they  holistically explore topics chosen by young attendees with the aim of empowering them to channel their energy through carefully selected activities. I am interested in supervising students who wish to undertake a PhD relating to neurodivergence in children, adulthood or older adulthood.
This can be a two hour, half day or full day session tailored to your school. The challenges experienced by individual pupils with an SpLD are not necessarily obvious, and they manifest in a complex number of ways. It can be difficult to recognise dyslexic characteristics in a pupil, and particularly difficult to know if it is dyslexia that is affecting the performance or there is another cause. Following the assessment, a comprehensive report will be provided (usually within 2 weeks / 10 working days) that will give the results of the tests and make recommendations for home and school. In order to diagnose dyslexia in a young person from the age of 8, a full diagnostic assessment is required. CASS believe that peoples neurological conditions should be recognised and accepted as a respected human variation.

Lisa has provided me with valuable support and training, and helped me support children to transition into the classroom. Lisa provided me valuable resources and tools, which has helped me support other children. Guidance, knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity through authentic lived-experience for children, young people and their families. I have also been invited to join the mental health, participation and quality of life working group for the next revision of International Clinical Practice Recommendations for DCD.
Access to Work also offers travel support, professional supporters, and a dedicated mental health support service. The kind of support you receive will depend on your exact needs and will be determined during the application process. This report can be helpful in describing what reasonable adjustments need to be made in education or employment or how professionals can best support a person with strategies or communication. FSW Psychology provide comprehensive and multi-disciplinary neurodevelopmental assessments for children, young people and adults. These assessments are offered when you would like to be assessed for more than one condition, for example Autism and ADHD. You may also want to consider a neurodevelopmental/neurodiversity assessment if you do not wish to pursue a diagnostic label but would like to increase of your understanding of your strengths and areas of need. The resources  are aimed at increasing the knowledge, skills, and understanding of neurodivergence for professionals in a range of service areas.

Our university fosters an environment where neurodiversity is celebrated, and we actively promote awareness and understanding of ASC among staff and students. We are delighted to hear about the extension of the Neurodivergence Programme. The continued funding will be instrumental in addressing the specific needs of individuals, our endeavours to reduce waiting times, and developing innovative approaches to support neurodiverse communities. The West Glamorgan neurodiverse board's myth busting project is an example of a new support service, which promotes a needs-led, strengths-based approach to supporting neurodivergent pupils, moving away from diagnosis-dependent support. Our Family Activity  & Wellbeing Services offer a variety of fun and accessible activities.

She aims to facilitate an assessment process that enables an exploration of your past and current experiences and concerns, without judgement while following an evidence-based approach. I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL040623). I am a member of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS). I have worked in NHS adult gender services since 2020 and am currently working as a specialist clinical psychologist at CMAGIC.

Our sessions raise understanding of different neurotypes and offer practical strategies to create inclusive, supportive environments where neurodivergent individuals can thrive. There is a significantly higher proportion of people with autism who suffer with their mental wellbeing compared to the general/ neurotypical population. Although Autism itself does not cause mental health problems, living in a  world that is not user friendly towards you can result in a tough and draining life with the need for support. Once a person is diagnosed with autism, support and better understanding can be given to guide them to engage better with others, should they choose to do so.
