School-based health programs provide preventive services, early diagnosis and treatment, risk assessments, vaccinations, and more. Health concerns can be addressed across broader populations of students, especially those with limited access to health care. School-based clinics improve the health of children by providing an easy and efficient way for families to access health care. The goal of school clinics is to keep students healthy, in school, and able to achieve their full potential. A cohort-based program for master of public health students is providing the next generation of leaders with the skills and training to bring equity and justice to their public health careers.
The program requires six unique courses totaling 18 semester hours in addition to any prerequisites. Several of our upper-division courses are only offered in springor fall semesters. Design and implementation of innovative demonstration projects to create and test new approaches to school-connected health and health care. Enter and complete residency training in primary care within four years after they graduate. In partnership with Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, SPH students travel to Cuernavaca, capital of Morelos state, to work with community partners addressing community health challenges in the region and country. SPH students travel to Kisumu City each year, working with community partners on HIV/AIDS interventions, sexual and reproductive health, safe water access, interpersonal violence, tobacco cessation and LGBTQ health.

You need to be a team player as we collaborate with mental health therapists, psychiatrists, dental hygienists, dentists, and health educators. You need to be comfortable working independently and have a couple of years of experience under your belt. Three clinics have remained open for students that need well child care visits, medications and immunizations during the pandemic. Mental health services are still available for kids that have anxiety or other mental health issues, such as students that may not have transitioned well to not being able to go to school or see their friends. We really want to reach those kids without insurance as we may be the only health care they have access to. If they are sick, we have an outlet pharmacy with medications – antibiotics, topicals, inhalers, oral contraceptives and other birth control methods for confidential visits.
All training programs utilize our simulation centers for skills training, and residents have access to state-of-the art CME courses that teach the latest innovations in patient care and surgical procedures. Children from low-income and racial or ethnic minority populations in the U.S. are less likely to have a conventional source of medical care and more likely to develop chronic health problems than are more-affluent and non-Hispanic white children. They are more often chronically stressed, tired, and hungry, and more likely to have impaired vision and hearing—obstacles to lifetime educational achievement and predictors of adult morbidity and premature mortality. If school-based health centers can overcome educational obstacles and increase receipt of needed medical services in disadvantaged populations, they can advance health equity. These clinics would provide in-school healthcare services from MetroHealth, Cleveland Clinic and other providers in addition to services offered by school nurses and psychologists. The investments in telehealth equipment would give students in all schools access to physical and mental health professionals without having to leave their school building.
She also serves as a preceptor for pharmacy IPPE and APPE students. Dr. Han brings over 10 years of community practice, pharmacy management, and medication therapy management experiences to the AUHS School of Pharmacy. Prior to joining AUHS, Dr. Han was in pharmacy practice working closely with independent pharmacies and physicians in developing procedures for drug management and regulatory compliance. She has managed multiple pharmacies and has taught numerous pharmacist interns and pharmacists who have successfully become pharmacy managers. Dr. Han has been actively involved in educating seniors on medication adherence, chronic disease states, and Medicare Part D prescription drug benefits. She also provides medication management in various senior facilities.
